Q.1- What was the scene in school on the morning of the last lesson. How was it different  from that on other days?

Ans. Usually, when school began, there was a great bustle,which could be heard out in the street,  and the teacher’s great ruler rapping on the table. But now it was all so still! .While I was wondering about it all, M. Hamel mounted his chair, and, said, “My children, this is the last lesson I shall give you. The order has come from Berlin to teach only German in the schools of Alsace and Lorraine. The new master comes tomorrow. so, in this way we can say it different from that on other days.


Q.2- Draw the character sketch of M. Hamel.

Ans.

In the "the last lesson" presented M.Hamle Character as sympathy and respect .M. Hamel is a traditional head master. He always keep his terrible iron ruler under his arm. He always maintain disciplined in the class. But on the other hand when the order has come from Berlin to teach only German. He become kind and gentle with students. He didn't scolded Franz for coming late. He declared that it was his last lesson and he would leave this place forever. He was very sad as he loved France very much.


Q. 3- Draw the character sketch of Franz?

Ans. Little Franz is the main character of the story "the last lesson" he was a simple school going village boy of Alsace. He like to spend his the day out doors, searching birds nest and wander at the edge of the woods instead of going to school. When he reached at the school, he not only notices strange environment of the school but also surprised at his teachers behavior. When Franz comes to know that it was the last lesson his teacher M. hamel in french and from next day only German will be taught by new teacher. It brings change in his attitude towards his teacher, schools, book and lessons. He felt sorry for not learning lessons properly and he forget his teacher's behavior and develop affinity towards his teachers.


Q. 4- Why are the young trees described as sprinting in poem “My mother at sixty six”?  

Ans. While driving to the airport, in an effort to distract herself from the thoughts of her ageing mother,the poet looks at the young trees 'sprinting'. The trees seem to be running past the moving car. The springing of the trees symbolizes the rapidly passing years of human's life from childhood to old age. This image, which shows activity and strength is contrasted with that of her old and weak mother who seems dormant, sleeping in the car. The young treas represent life in contrast of her mother's approaching death.


Q.5- Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions given below it in  about 50 words each.  

India is a land of farmers who are very simple and hard working. Their only  wealth is their land. If their crops fail they run into debt and lead a miserable life. They  are mostly uneducated. They are not familiar with the new implements and improved  methods of farming. They use the same kind of plough as was used many centuries  ago. Our government is trying its best to improve the lot of the farmers. They are  encouraged to use modern implements good seeds and manures. They are given loans  at low rate of interest. Development blocks have been opened all over the country. The  blocks supply superior seeds and good manure.

(a) Describe the farmers of India. 

Ans.  The farmers of India are :

1) They are very simple and hard working

2) They lead a miserable life when crops fails.

3) They are mostly uneducated.

4) They are not familiar with the new implements and improved methods of farming.

5) They use the same kind of plough as was used many centuries ago.


(b) How does our government encourage the farmers? 

Ans. Our government encourage the farmers to use modern implements good seeds and manures. They are given loans at low rate of interest. Development blocks have been opened all over the country. The pblocks supply superior seeds and good manure.
